Created by Seoul-based designer Chaehoon Moon, tableware brand Damoon blends traditional Korean artistry with contemporary design. A graduate of Ewha Womans University School of Art and Design, Moon developed her signature collection in 2015, using her background in industrial design to reimagine classic Korean dinnerware in modern forms. In celebration of traditional materials, local metalworkers handcraft each vessel from Yughee, a Korean bronzeware favored by royalty for its ability to change color when touched by toxic ingredients. Master lacquer artists then coat the exterior of select pieces with Ottchil, a natural lacquer derived from Ott-tree sap that hardens into a textured, durable surface. Damoon’s materials and techniques draw on Korea’s rich artisan heritage, while its sculptural, minimalist designs are distinctly modern. Damoon’s artisan creations have earned praise in Moon’s native Korea and abroad, including top honors at the Seoul Living Design Fair and Germany's international Red Dot awards.
