Storage Furniture

DSHOP’s collection of storage furniture brings mid-century and Danish Modern furniture into conversation with contemporary cabinetmaking and shelving systems. Credenzas, cabinets, bookcases, vitrines and desks reveal different approaches to the same enduring idea: furniture whose beauty lies as much in its construction and function as in its silhouette.

Hans J. Wegner’s CH825 credenza, designed in 1959, expresses this balance through a continuous wood-veneer surface and innovative roller-shutter doors that disappear behind the interior. Carl Hansen & Søn reintroduced the design in 2014 to mark the centenary of Wegner’s birth. Preben Fabricius and Jørgen Kastholm’s FK63 Bookcase System, conceived in 1963, takes a more architectural approach, combining solid oak, precise joinery and brass-handled cabinets in customizable compositions.

Contemporary Danish studios continue this exploration through GUBI. Space Copenhagen’s Private Sideboard draws on antique Japanese furniture, pairing oak veneer with a raised structure that gives the substantial cabinet an unexpected lightness. The accompanying Private Vitrine introduces glazed display, while Linda Korndal’s studio, Toko Among Friends, brings a contemporary modular perspective with the Keen Shelving System, combining a slender metal framework with glass or wood shelves. Together, these pieces connect generations of design through proportion, material character and carefully resolved details.
