Keen Shelving System
The Keen Shelving System approaches storage as architecture—open, expressive, and quietly alive. Designed for GUBI by architect Linda Korndal’s studio, Toko Among Friends, Keen reflects the idea that the objects we live with should evolve alongside us, gathering meaning as they move through our homes and lives.
Rather than presenting a fixed form, Keen is conceived as a framework. A modular system that grows vertically and laterally, it adapts intuitively to changing spaces and shifting needs—equally at home in compact apartments, generous family houses, hospitality interiors, and work environments. Each configuration feels complete, no matter its scale, allowing the system to expand over time without losing its visual balance.
Keen’s architectural presence begins at the floor. Oversized feet anchor the structure while lifting it subtly upward, creating a sense of lightness and animation. Vertical metal rods rise through the shelves, connected by precisely engineered brackets that allow the system to build upward with clarity and ease. Soft arches at the top complete the composition, lending a gentle counterpoint to the system’s structural rigor.
Material choices deepen Keen’s emotional resonance. FSC®-certified black-brown stained ash offers a grounded, quietly confident expression, while the ALPI Sottsass Gray veneer (FSC® C176589) introduces an unexpected softness through its swirling, fabric-like pattern. For a more contemporary, sculptural effect, cool-gray stained glass shelves add translucent layers that emphasize rhythm, depth, and play.
Finished in either black brass or satin-polished stainless steel, Keen balances precision with warmth, structure with personality. More than shelving, it is a living system—designed to change, to move, and to hold not just objects, but the evolving stories of the spaces it inhabits.
