Luca Nichetto

Luca Nichetto

Born in Venice in 1976, Italian designer Luca Nichetto grew up amid the glassmaking traditions of Murano. With a mother who decorated glass and a grandfather who crafted chandeliers, he encountered design first through the people who made it. That early understanding of materials and craftsmanship continues to inform a practice spanning contemporary furniture, lighting and interiors.

After graduating in industrial design from Università Iuav di Venezia in 1998, Nichetto began his career with Murano glassmaker Salviati before working with lighting specialist Foscarini. He founded Nichetto Studio in Venice in 2006 and opened a second studio in Stockholm in 2011. These two design cultures give his work a distinctive perspective, bringing Italian material richness together with Scandinavian clarity. Collaborations with Cassina, Hermès and &Tradition reflect the breadth of his approach, grounded in an understanding of both artisanal techniques and industrial production.

His AL13 Pool Table for RS Barcelona brings that sensibility to the world of play. Available through DSHOP, the sculptural billiard table pairs an aluminum structure with leather detailing, its flowing contours resting on two substantial supports. Material exploration and carefully considered proportions give a familiar game an architectural presence—a meeting of craftsmanship, engineering and the pleasure of play.
