Oliver Schick

Oliver Schick

Born in 1969 in Darmstadt, Germany, a town known for its contributions to the Art Nouveau movement, designer Oliver Schick discovered the impact design can have on everyday objects early on. After studying product design at HBK University of Fine Arts and Design, he worked as a designer for a variety of studios before opening his own eponymous firm in 2005. Today, Schick's work focuses on artful simplicity and the story an object can tell.

"My aim is to design products with character that are timeless and easy to comprehend. They should be simple in use, in production and even in their idea, without being boring or lifeless. In my opinion the narrative aspect of a product is just as important as its function." says Schick.

Schick applies his interest in material composition, function, and sustainability to lighting, interior design, and furniture design. Here, while working in tandem with an international roster of brands including GUBI and Wendelbo, Schick continues to push the boundaries of his creativity with experimental works, discovering where design and sculpture might intersect.
