Chord Lighting
Chord Lighting Collection
The Chord lighting collection designed by Alexandra Burr and Allen Slamic of AlexAllen Studio was born of the duo’s passion for balance, proportion, and refinement. The formally trained architects define their approach to lighting design as a quest for “the fine line between richness and restraint, minimalism and tactility, austerity and ornament.” This approach is well reflected in the contemporary lighting design of the Chord lighting collection. Beginning with the Chord pendant light, AlexAllen took inspiration from minimalist jewelry design – crafting a geometric light from just two components – a single metal rod and arc – cladding each in a rich array of finishes ranging from polished brass to gunmetal black, then lacing each element with a thin slip of LED light. Building upon the original fixture's success, the subsequent Chord Convoy was an amplification of the original Chord pendant light concept, resulting in an ultra slim and linear light fixture that links one Chord fixture to another, forming a modern scallop pattern, as one swag kisses the other - meeting along a common light rod. A further expansion of this concept of iterative form is the Chord Cluster Chandelier. An alchemy of minimalism and minimalism – this modern chandelier takes inspiration from the repetitive curves of the traditional crystal chandelier. Offering all the glitz, glamour, and glow of its predecessor, the Chord Cluster casts a new light on a classic form. As Alexandra and Allen eloquently express, “We feel innovation should also be sensitive to vernacular and tradition.” DSHOP invites you to discover the magic and beauty of this ethos today.
